I am excited to be featured in Speech to the Core’s blog series, a day in the life. Although we are all SLPs, we each lead unique lives! It is fun to read what everyone’s day is like!
So…onto my day, which starts at 6:15 when my alarm clock goes off (during the week, my daughter is my alarm clock on the weekends which goes off around 7:30). At that point, I do the whole shower and getting ready routine which includes just putting on the outfit I picked out the night before. I eat breakfast (Special K almonds and vanilla is my current go to breakfast food) and head out the door. I get to work around 7:30, sign in, check my planner to see what i planned, and take out any materials I may need for the day. The morning can be so hectic, I usually forget to drink the Dunkin Donuts coffee that I bought on my way to school. Unfortunately to child care stuff, I cannot make it to school earlier than I already do so I have to be quick and smart about how I can utilize my time.
I typically see about 4-5 sessions in the morning (depending if my prep is during the morning) and then I have lunch around 11:20. Lunch is typically a turkey sandwich and if I am super motivated a salad topped with turkey. If I don’t have lunch duty, lunch lasts an hour (which usually it cut short due to CSEs, or running to the photo copy machine, or prepping for my group after lunch).
I start my afternoon sessions at 12:25 and see 3-4 groups in the afternoon (depends if I have my prep in the afternoon). My groups end at 2:30 and I have bus duty. Once all of the buses have left, we can leave which is typically like 2:45-ish.
I usually hang around to prepare for the next day and make sure I have everything prepared. Then I get to go home and see my daughter and play with her for the rest of the afternoon/evening. We play around the house, go for walks, go to the park, playgroups, and mommy & me classes. I feed her dinner around 5:30, give her a bath, then we watch some Sesame or another TV show before bed. She goes to bed around 7pm. That is when I eat dinner and start blogging/TpT-ing! I do that while watching my Real Housewives or whatever Bravo show is on at the time. I typically call it quits around 9:30-10 and head to bed!
